The following song really resonates with me in that I consider this song to be very much about the dangerous level of apathy in this country. I think a lot of the problems in this country have to do with people willingly "staying asleep". They are allowing this administration to manipulate their decisions without actually getting involved in those decisions.
Presently, I believe that the administration's current goal is to brainwash the country into buying into their plan for social security. However, anyone who is willing to do a little research, can see through the BushShit!
On another note, unfortunately I am very worried that I have possibly lost a very close friend as a result of him being an unabashed "Bush Zombie". My feelings of utter confusion, frustration, and ultimate DISSAPOINTMENT are expressed in the lyrics below, I hope ya'll enjoy!
Artist: A Perfect Circle
Album: EMOTIVe
Song: Passive
Lyrics:
Dead as dead can be, my doctor tells me
But I just can’t believe him, never the optimistic one
I’m sure of your ability to become my perfect enemy
Wake up and face me, don’t play dead cause maybe
Someday I will walk away and say,
You disappoint me,Maybe you’re better off this way
Leaning over you here, cold and catatonic
I catch a brief reflection of what you could and might have been
It's your right and your ability
To become…my perfect enemy…
Wake up and face me, don’t play dead cause maybe
Someday I’ll walk away and say,
You disappoint me,
Maybe you’re better off this way
Maybe you’re better off this way
Maybe you’re better off this way
Maybe you’re better off this way
You’re better of this…you’re better off this…
Maybe you’re better off!
Wake up and face me, don’t play dead cause maybe
Someday I’ll walk away and say, You fucking disappoint me!
Maybe you’re better off this way
Go ahead and play dead
Wake Up!
I know that you can hear this
Wake Up!
Go ahead and play dead
Wake Up!
Why can't you turn and face me?
Why can't you turn and face me?
Why can't you turn and face me?
Why can't you turn and face me?
You fucking disappoint me!

Just a comment on Social Security, Ben. Here's where people should start their research, at Social Security's own Office of the Actuarry. A link to the summary of 2004 trust fund reports is:
http://www.ssa.gov/OACT/TRSUM/trsummary.html
This document is signed by the trustees of the SSA trust fund, including the Commissioner of Social Security, the Secretary of the Treasury, The Secretary of Labor and the Secretary of HHS.
The relevant item is found in paragraph 2 of the 2nd heading on Social Security: "Social Security could be brought into actuarial balance over the next 75 years in various ways, including an immediate increase in payroll taxes of 15 percent or an immediate reduction in benefits of 13 percent (or some combination of the two). To the extent that changes are delayed or phased in gradually, greater adjustments in scheduled benefits and revenues would be required. Ensuring the sustainability of the system beyond 2078 would require even larger changes."
Now this isn't even on the table, and it should be. A 15% increase in SSA tax is about a 1.3% actual tax increase. Problem solved, pessimestic assumptions, next 75 years. Bush should recall that his hero Reagan fixed SSA for a 60 year period (1982 to about 2040) without breaking the system. Remind your senators and congressmen of this and point to this official document that clearly shows no crisis in the Retirement funds.
