Conclusive Proof: Vampires Do Not Exist

Sorry fans of Anne Rice novels. Sorry members of the dark persuasion. According to this, vampires could never exist.

So what am I suppose to do with my garage full of stakes that I spend countless hours making? I need a knew hobby.

Linus is right. Why would you turn everyone you bit? That is usually addressed in most vampire mythos.

I thought that this was supposed to be conclusive. Ha. That's funny. A conclusive myth.

Does anyone else care to showcase their vamp-geekness? ;)

The question of vampirism boils down to science fiction vs. fantasy. Fantasy vampires cannot really be disproven, any logic applied to them would be moot. They don't follow any real world rules. Sci-fi vampires however have a cause, an explanation and their existence can be disproven in the real world. Or if not disproven, at least the improbability of their existence can be detailed.

From a molecular biology standpoint the ingestion of blood would, for all intents and purposes be a useless venture. When blood is exposed to the HCL of the stomach and the pancreatic enzymes that follow it is degraded to the point of macromolecules. The Hemoglobin is degraded almost completely by bile, which is actually part of bile's function in the body--degrading old bloodcell's hemoglobin so it doesn't toxify the blood. This being said the argument could be made that a vampire's digestive system has been altered in a way that gets around this problem, this too is ineffective. even if blood from another organism could be taken in and not degraded, then taken up directly into the vampire's system the immune system of the vampire would attack any foreign antigens from the blood of the victim. The antibody-antigen-antibody complexes would cause hemoagglutination, which is a kind of blood poisoning. It could, once again, be argued that the physiology of a vampire has been altered so much that their immune system functions differently than humans. Taken together the physiological differences are so great that to assume the causitive agent for vampirism--I assume a retrovirus--could actually exist is an imposibility. The amount of change that would have to occur to the human genome to facilitate this kind of difference is far more than the RNA capacity of 10 of the largest retroviruses.

My sentiments exactly Brian! ;)

Don't be silly - vampirism is not a retrovirus, it's a curse, also known as the dark gift. You breathers wouldn't understand...

His Sinfulness, though I agree fully with your comment, and I think the same (the fact that not everyone who was bitten was turned, infact Id be willing to say most died or didnt even know they were being fed upon), I have to say, your claim of vampirism is...shakey. If givin you were a real vampire, why would you come out with it in an internet site? I believe fully in the existance of vampires, but to say you're one is..a bit hard to believe. Would not a vampire merely let the humans come to their own conclusions, so that there was no chance of discovery? Of course, judge not least ye be judged, so Im willing to give you the benefit of the doubt. But please, I want to know why you would come out like this if you indeed ARE a vampire?

So if Sinnful is a vampire, I am a very ready willing person to become one :)karmicbrunette@aol.com
According to some research I've done not every feeding turns a person, the vampire chooses that.

I want to believe in vampires, but I doubt their existance even though I've studied them for years.

Though, the so called "conclusive proof" doesn't prove anything. Vampires do not turn the people that they feed from.

To His Sinfulness... stop the bullshit.

Yea but the fact that a vampire biting a person turns into a vampire is mostly used in fiction most vampires kill the ppl the done with I assume, also the human race is growing every day so its impossible that we'll all disappear plus most vampires in this century are probably smarter than that they have only been alive for thousands of years, can you say blood banks! Its been noted that although lots of ppl give blood probably at less once a day there’s always a shortage why is that?????And hundreds of ppl go missing a year less that a forth of which are found and I’ll bet that not all of them change there names. Although Annie Rice books, Vlad Dracula are completely fictional peoples have been talking about vampire for forever! And one someone will have hard evidence they exist!
